Dom Pérignon launches its 2005 vintage
Dom Pérignon has launched its 2005 vintage. The quantities are small but the quality is said to be “exceptional” and “of unprecedented aromatic maturity”, according to Richard Geoffroy.
While few champagne houses decided to make 2005 a vintage, and after nine years of maturation in Dom Pérignon's cellars, cellar master Richard Geoffroy described the wine as having "a rich nose from which all the aroma of forest fruits, accentuated by a silvery minerality and notes of praline and coriander. »
“The palate is powerful, structured and dense, with a surprisingly spicy floral finish. »
After a warm and favorable year, the harvest was almost ruined by a cold and wet start to September. But the invasion of botrytis, especially on the pinot noir, was avoided thanks to the return of good weather shortly before the start of the harvest (launched on September 14 for the chardonnay and on the 17 for the pinot noir).
The wine will go on sale at the recommended price of £130 (€180) a bottle.
