The left bank remains the engine of Bordeaux
Liv-ex Bordeaux indices are still on the rise, especially the left bank, thanks to a constant demand for “value” red wines.
The Bordeaux 500 index brings together all the Liv-ex Bordeaux indices, all shores combined. For the first time since the market peak in 2011, it is the best sub-index of the Fine Wine 1000 over twelve months (from February 2015 to February 2016).
The two most active and successful indices on the Bordeaux 500 are the Second Wines 50 (+8.8 % since February 2015) and the Left Bank 200 (+3.8 %).
On its blog, Liv-ex explains: “Like the second wines, the wines of the sub-index dedicated to the left bank benefit from a solid reputation, an appropriately sized production and relatively affordable prices. This is what British, American and European buyers have traditionally been looking for. »
Sixteen of the 20 references of the Left Bank 200 have appreciated in value since February 2015. In October 2015, it had already been observed that the prices of 16 wines of this index (out of 20 as well) had increased since the turn of the market in July 2014 .
At the time, Haut Bailly had the best performance. But since February 2015, Beychevelle has taken the lead, and clearly, with an increase of 13 %.
The four châteaux that have declined over the past 12 months are Cos d'Estournel, Smith Haut Lafitte, Montrose and Pontet-Canet.
