Record attendance at Vinexpo Hong Kong: 16,800 visitors; an increase of 6.8 %

Vinexpo Asia-Pacific came to a close after achieving an unprecedented success: 16,800 visitors, an increase of 6.8%.

The exhibition confirmed its top form with a record 1300 exhibitors representing wines and spirits from 34 nationalities.

Vinexpo Asia-Pacific this year extended the surface area available to exhibitors by 50 % to meet the high demand. For the first time, the show was spread over two floors.

A few hours before the exhibition doors closed, the first figures were revealed: a record attendance of 16,800 visitors, including importers, distributors and major buyers, an increase of 6.4 % compared to the 2012 edition.

The number of Chinese buyers attending this year has shown a slight increase. “Attendance from South-East Asia has shown a sharp increase, with more and more visitors from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand or Vietnam”, according to the President of Vinexpo, Xavier de Eizaguirre.
The Academy by Vinexpo welcomed 9 000 visitors during 54 tastings and conferences led by experts from all continents, including 30 seated tastings, 5 standing tastings, 15 lectures and 4 masterclasses leading to a qualification.

Once again, the most important personalities in the sector met to share their expertise and knowledge of the market and products, such as Paolo Basso, Jeannie Cho Lee, Hubert de Boüard, Jane Skilton, Li Demei, Michel Rolland, Simon Tam, Debra Meiburg and Nelson Chow.

“The feedback from this year has been very positive and confirms the market leader position of Vinexpo Asia- Pacific”, said Guillaume Deglise, managing director of Vinexpo.
Hong Kong remains a favoured gateway to the Chinese market and is definitely emerging as a hub in Asia for the wine and spirits industry. “This market is more sophisticated than ever: it could be felt both in the transactions and in the mood at this year’s exhibition”, according to Guillaume Deglise, director of Vinexpo.

Among the new features introduced this year at Vinexpo Asia- Pacific, “Spiritual” remains one of the great successes. This new concept bar, positioned at the heart of the exhibition, allowed professional mixologists to work and enhance a multitude of spirits through creative cocktails and masterclasses, in partnership with the magazine The Spirits Business.
