HDH Hails Phenomenal Results

  • Featured

US auction house, Hart Davis Hart is toasting a US$4.9 million auction in Chicago with “phenomenal” prices paid for Pétrus, Rousseau and Sine Qua Non.

The sale was 99% sold by lot with 40% of those exceeding their high estimates, driven by “passionate” bidding from buyers spanning 41 US states and five continents.

“Classic Burgundy” was central to the two-day sale and bidding on the likes of Armand Rousseau, Drouhin, Mugnier and Leroy raised $1.7m, over a quarter of the total.

Bordeaux though totalled $2m, driven by the demand for Pétrus and Lafite including magnums of 1970 Pétrus, 11 bottles of 1982 Lafite and various lots of Palmer and Gruaud Larose.

Meanwhile, 45 of the 50 lots of cult Napa winery Sine Qua Non met or exceeded their high estimates, while there was strong interest in two magnums of 1995 Rayas Châteauneuf-du-Pape which eventually sold for $3,824.

“What better way to start off the year than with a near-record number of bidders and phenomenal hammer prices?” remarked CEO Paul Hart.

“This weekend’s results have us excited for the months ahead, and especially for our upcoming Burgundy auction – high quality Burgundy (among other regions) is undeniably trading at a premium.”
