Burgundy exhibition centre to be set up in Beaune by 2016.

  • Other

After two years of heated debate, Burgundy wine traders and producers have decided to build an exhibition centre in Beaune; the capital of Burgundy wines, by 2016. The BIVB (Burgundy wine professionals union) has allocated a budget of 10 million euros in order to enable access to regional vineyards.

“We are going for a smaller exhibition centre in comparison to Bordeaux but we are hoping it will enable us to expand the international exposure of the Burgundy brand.” Said Pierre-Henry Gagey president of BIVB. Visitors would be able to discover Burgundy wines through a exhibitions and workshops. A Burgundy wine school will also be opened for both professionals and students.

The site will be administrated by a specially created agency. Pierre Henry Gagey added that this structure should be self-financed and independent.

Burgundy Exports are Performing Well

This exhibition centre will not compete with the Dijon city of Gastronomy international vinotheque. Indeed the Vice president Didier Martin, confirmed that he would work together with the Beaune project to achieve a vast centre of information on Burgundy wines.

Alain suguenot, the deputy mayor of Beaune, despite his failure to set up the Gastonomy city in his town , still wishes to construct a five star hotel close to the Burgundy city and a luxury mall which will focus on wine.

These two projects are the result of the amazing growth of Burgundy wine exports. On the first 4 months of the year they recorded a turn over of 214.5 millions euros, boosted by the American and Hong Kong wine hubs.
