The result is a clear and fine wine, with a nice complexity that blends aromas of exotic fruits, pineapple, and grapefruit. The freshness of the mineral-rich soil is easy to taste in the finish.
ESTATE
The history of the estate began in 1920 when Jean François Morel, Swiss winemaker, decided to settle in Gascony to work the vineyard. The estate was just 10 hectares, but now has 120 and the grandchildren of Jean-François are now in charge of the estate. At the heart of the Bas Armagnac, the estate Ménard is located along the famous Via Podensis, a road used for centuries by pilgrims going to Saint Jacques de Compostela.
SITE
The vines are located in the village of Bretagne d’Armagnac.
GRAPE VARIETY
60% Colombard / 20% Sauvignon / 20% Gros Maseng Or.
SOIL
Sandy scrubland / Stonymarl / Pebbles.
GROWING METHOD
Hand harvested and hand sorted. 100% de-stemmed and vertically pressed. Vinification for 3 weeks in stainless steel tanks. Natural yeasts.
SURFACE AREA
20 hectares.
DENSITY
8000 vines / hectares.
VINIFICATION
Fermentation at 14°C for 25 days. Batonnage on lees.
AGEING
7 months in stainless steel tanks before bottling.
