WINE MAKER
Gaëtan Charloux. This Château’s philosophy is somewhat different to many in Bordeaux. In 1990 they constructed the largest underground cellar in the region, locally known as “The Cathedral“. 10 separate vintages are stored at the Château, and wines are only released when they are ready to drink.
SITE
Located in the communes of Blaignan, Ordonnac and Prignac in the Médoc region, 5 miles north-west of St-Estèphe.
GRAPE VARIETY
60 % Merlot,
40 % Cabernet Sauvignon.
SOIL
Stony gravel and limestone-clay.
GROWING METHOD
Elimination of excess buds; leaf stripping as needed. Certification of « Agriculture Raisonnée » awarded in 2006.
SURFACE AREA
36 hectares.
DENSITY
7500 vines / hectare.
VINIFICATION
Hand selection on the vines before picking. Maceration period: 15-25 days, depending on the year, the variety, and the age of the vines.
AGEING
Aged in oak barrels (50% new, 50% one year old) for 12-16 months.
